The importance of strength training can’t be denied – it burns calories, builds lean muscle and boosts your metabolism. But while lifting weights is certainly your most convenient ticket to a faster metabolism and sculpted muscles, you can do even more to accelerate weight loss. Aerobic exercises, such as power walking, swimming and biking, will help you burn off extra calories so you lose weight faster. In addition, these kinds of exercise will condition your heart and lungs, improving your overall health. I’m a big fan of power walking. Each time you walk briskly for 20 minutes, you burn an additional 150-200 calories. Walk six times a week, whether in the morning, during your lunch break or after dinner, and you’ll burn an additional 1,200 calories – that’s more than one-third of a pound of fat! The end result is well worth the effort: Power walking will help you reach your weight-loss goal faster than strength training alone.
